Hand-made, bespoke corset tops crafted from sustainably sourced materials. ‘Scarab Belle’ is the name of the small business I have recently set up, hand-making corset tops from sustainably sourced materials. Even though I’m studying printed textiles design at university, making garments and being around fabrics has always interested me.
The UK going into lockdown was actually a breath of fresh air for me to really indulge my creativity. However, lockdown 3.0 has been by far the hardest on my mental health. Teaching myself how to make corset tops has been so therapeutic and essential for my sanity!
Within my practice as a designer, I always try to consider the planet and the waste I produce. With a massive focus on sustainability, nothing is wasted within the construction of my garments. I keep all the off-cuts and have big plans to use the spare material for patchwork ‘scrap’ garments. I am in no way a professional at this and I learn more every time I create a new top. For the structure of these corsets, I use re-purposed cable ties as boning and am delving deep into researching ways to bone my corsets even more sustainably.Back to full listings
